Our Epic Journey to Australia

by | Apr 12, 2026

Jen and I knew that traveling to Australia with Robert would be a unique and interesting experience, but we didn’t anticipate how incredible the trip would actually be! In addition to the intense experience of the three back-to-back workshops, we were continually amazed by the endless beautiful beaches and breathtaking views around every corner.

The Premiere of the Path of Least Resistance Workshop

The eleven days of training on the Gold Coast kicked off with the Path of Least Resistance, a new workshop that Robert created based on his classic book. Participants from all over Australia and the world (some came from Japan, UK, and even the US to be there) came to study directly with Robert, and he delivered one of the most clear and impactful personal workshop experiences I’ve been part of, as he helped individuals become aware of concepts that were getting in the way of creating the outcomes they wanted in their lives. “You don’t have to do anything” was one of the powerful exercises that echoed throughout the rest of what was to come, making it clear that everything we do in life is a choice, which in turn empowered us to make the choices we needed to create the outcomes that mattered most to us. Reality started to become an acquired taste for many in the room!

Practicing the Art of the Creative Process

After this deep and powerful personal work, many participants continued on to take The Art of the Creative Process, an opportunity for them to apply a structural approach to their art. The next three days were a bit lighter and fun, as we all analyzed various films, photos, songs, and writing before embarking on a number of projects ourselves, including carefully composed photos using the structural principles we had been learning over the past few days.

Learning the Fundamentals of Structural Thinking

The Fundamentals of Structural Thinking spanned the final four days with largely the same group of people, but this time joined by quite a few more. The energy was already focused and engaged as we dug into various personal strategies people adopt in their lives and relationships, with new insights gained through observing a live structural consulting session.

Then, we looked at businesses and organizations through the lens of structural dynamics, and had some truly effective discussions around the way we look at business, sales, distribution, and so on. Finally, on the last day, Robert demonstrated Macrostructural Patterns (a first for the FST), and we worked with Digital Decision Making and a simple but powerful way to evaluate job performance. All in all, the FST continues to be a condensed experience filled with practical principles that work when applied to real-world scenarios.

Continuing the Journey with the Creating Your Life Course

Of course, the end of the FST was also the end of the amazing container we had all been part of throughout the experience, and many of us were sad to go. However, something exciting emerged soon after: A large group of the attendees from Australia and elsewhere decided to start the Creating Your Life course together! As those of you who have taken it know, Creating Your Life takes what you may have learned from reading Robert’s books or attending his workshops and puts it into a daily practice so you can incorporate it into your life and long-term life-building process. It’s a natural companion to the traditional workshops, and now with a large cohort going through it at the same time, it’s an even more fun and valuable experience.

In truth, we were a bit sad to leave Australia, a place we had never been before, but where we felt so at home. It’s a beautiful country, and we plan to return someday, that’s for sure!

Also, a special thanks to Samala Austin, who was instrumental in bringing Robert (and us) to Australia, and to all the other participants who made it such a special experience.
